Batt Insulation

Why choose Batt Insulation?

Batt insulation, or blanket insulation, is the most economical insulation solution and it is long-lasting, durable, and very effective when installed properly. For these reasons it is among the most popular insulation materials across North America, and a top choice for builders, remodelers, and homeowners in all climates. When properly installed by experienced, trained insulation specialists, batt insulation can greatly improve your building's energy efficiency, comfort, durability, and environmental performance.

Batt Insulation Applications

  • Walls
  • Floors
  • Attics
  • Ceilings

Help save on energy bills*

  • The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates (for all insulation) that homeowners who air seal and insulate their homes can save up to 20% of heating and cooling costs (or up to 10% total energy costs). (Source: Energy Star)
  • Batt insulation combined with an air sealing product such as Ecoseal to eliminate air infiltration, provides a quality economical solution to your insulation needs. Installing insulation into your home with higher R-values, results in greater insulating power.

Areas to Insulate

Prior to installing Batt insulation, it is imperitive to seal all seams and gaps in the framing with EcoSeal or Spray Foam. All electrical boxes, wire penetrations, plumbing, junction boxes etc., all allow the movement of air from the warm interior space to the cold outdoors. This air movement, although seamingly minute, can drastically reduce the R-value of any installed insulation. At Greenways we utilize thermal imaging equipment to locate and seal all problem penetrations to provide the best installation possible. For more on our thermal imaging services, Read More..

Several types of batt insulation

Batt insulation comes in several different materials to suit the homeowner's needs and desires for insulating their home. Batts can be unfaced or faced with a variety of materials, including kraft paper, foil-faced kraft paper and plastic. The faced side of the batt should always be oriented toward the conditioned space, rather that toward the exterior of the building.

  • Fiberglass - The most common material used. R-3 to R-3.8 per in.
  • Mineral Wool - Made from molten rock, excellent sound absorbency, fire-resistant up to 2150 F. R-4 to R-4.3 per in.
  • Cotton - Consists of 85% recycled cotton and 15% plastic fibers, sometimes recycled denim, non-toxic. R-3.7 per in.
